1Kin unveils L2 blockchain GR1D to connect all web3 gaming networks

Web3 gaming startup 1Kin Labs has announced modular L2 blockchain GR1D.

Aiming to work as a discovery and onboarding platform for web3 games, GR1D is designed to connect all web3 gaming networks in one hub. To-date it claims to have onboarded over 100 web3 games, including Aavegotchi, Blocklords, and Aurory. In addition to this it’s signed deals with blockchains such as Polygon, Solana, Avalanche, Aptos, Fantom, and others.

By providing an all-in-one hub where gamers don’t need to swap between ecosystems and wallets, GR1D also hopes to appeal to game developers by offering a platform of players without needing to migrate off the chain they initially deployed on.

To grow its user base, GR1D offers a series of features such as

  • 1Pass – a subscription service serving as a game pass, which gives access to partner games’ exclusive content
  • 1KIT – 1Kin’s SDK giving games and studios access to GR1D
  • GR1D Tag – a global ID system for players
  • GRID token – also called GR1D credits, GRID will serve as a gaming token giving holders “access to the entire web3 gaming industry through interoperability”.

“Our journey began with a vision to unify the way web3 games are discovered and provide unified tooling to allow full interoperability across chains and titles,” commented 1Kin Labs founder Jack O’Neil.

“GR1D is our answer to these challenges, giving users a no-nonsense sign-in experience like Amazon Prime Gaming or Xbox Game Pass while also bringing the efficiencies of blockchain and distributing value back to shareholders.”

1Kin’s 1Pass service is set to go live in early August 2024, with the GR1D Testnet launching later in 2024, and the Mainnet expected in 2025.
